It makes more sense with production tools than with sound sources. That's way more than Slate's subscription. My demo just expired and I can't justify $225 a year (or close to it) for stuff I rarely use. Its regional focus is probably a bit more occidental than the rest. I was surprised by Garritan World, which I got quite cheap, as it covers dozens of rare instruments not covered elsewhere. But they don't cover exactly the same material. I was able to do direct comparisons as I own every generation (three different names too).Įthno World from Best Service is quite good, but I'd say is now surpassed by World Suite. What distinguishes UVI World Suite, is that they put a lot of effort into improving the old material. What you'll find with the "nth generation" libraries is that the quality and depth get better with each release, but mostly just on the newly-added instruments. Having said that, there's fairly good material in most of the bigger libraries out there, except for the bloody awful ones from East/West, which I regret buying. I own every ethnic library out there as it's my specialty, but usually the catch-alls are just for hard-to-find stuff and I go for detailed single-sound libraries when available. World Suite and Ethno World are the main ones that are updated regularly and are not specifically focused on percussion. UVI World Suite is what was going to be Ethno 3 before the split with MOTU (details still not known). The smallest of these old Roland instruments, like the JV1010, tend to go for rather cheap these days.

Also, you need an host instrument to install the card in - unless you buy the Integra-7 module, which has all SRX cards built-in.

These old Roland cards are becoming a bit rare, and their price has come up in recent years. Lastly, the SRX-09 card is included, with all other SRX cards, in the Integra-7 module.Īnd a short YouTubedemo of all the sounds in the card, played from a Roland JV1010: The same sounds have been included in the later SRX-09 "World Collection" card with more memory, but the additional sounds are not on the same level in my opinion.

It's called the SR-JV80-05 World Expansion Board, and it can be installed in many JV/XP Roland instruments. Generally, the samples are very well done. There are also a lot more samples of instruments from different cultures, including Far East countries. I'm not an expert so I'm not sure exacly which sounds you need, but I found that the old "World" card for Roland instruments has at least a couple of solo wind instruments from the North Affrican/Middle Eastern tradition, a few stringed instruments, several pecussions, and a few loops too.
